Fun Experience

Beautiful scenery, fun guides, waterslides, and swinging rope! I highly recommend El Yunque tour. I do not highly recommend Bio Bay tour for experienced kayakers/canoers.

Worth it only for the nature

The whole trip was a mixed bag. There were a lot of cons to our trip which was from 9 AM to 11 PM +. First it took 4 hours between pickup and time we got to the forest. We stopped to pick up so many people outside San Juan. Up long winding gated communities. The first stop at the roadside store had yummy food. I highly suggest getting the chicken and rice plate rather than a smoothie. The sugar will dehydrate you. The rainforest trip wasn’t an official trip to El Yunque, but rather to the outskirts. After hurricane Maria the forest hasn’t reopened. The rainforest was cool, but more so a walk just to the river. At the river the water holes, jumping, and swimming was amazing! The only problem was the guides. They were so patronizing and flat out rude sometimes to certain people (non white). It was basically “so jump here” “no here” and they would roll their eyes. It was also annoying having the life jackets throughout the forest walk. When we got to the dinner place they were rude and said “really that’s all you’re going to eat?”, and said we should be starving by the end of the walk. We were fine and felt it was just a money grab because the restaurant was very expensive but not very good. The kayak tour was beautiful but again the guides were either completely unhelpful or seemed annoyed. So many people crashed into the mangroves and got cut up by trees and the guides laughed. Overall, it was worth it to see the nature but maybe with a different tour. It was also embarrassing to be with a group of 25+ people with advanced degrees and treated like children.

So magical and the guides were great! The scenery was unbelievable. I got to drink fresh water from the waterfall. What an adventure trekking in the rainforest and finishing with kayaking in the bioluminescent bay.

My boyfriend and I went on this trip and had an amazing time! The tour guides were really friendly and were helpful on some of the tricky parts of the hike. The bio bay was a bit underwhelming but it was still a lot of fun

Cool sights, tour guides have room for improvement

The experience itself was really memorable - seeing the lush forest, being in the waterfall, and kayaking in the bioluminescence bay was very cool. However I would’ve really appreciated more communication from the tour guides regarding our itineraries and descriptions of activities. For example, before the jungle tour, they didn’t mention that the small store we stopped at would be the last bathroom stop before entering the jungle. I and many of the other people on the tour felt very confused throughout the trip. I would’ve also appreciated more enthusiasm and facts regarding the jungle from the tour guides. I’ve been on many viator experiences with knowledgeable, enthusiastic tour guides with good communication and this wasn’t one of them. Our guides were Luis, Barbara and Max.

Worth It

This trip was a lot of fun. The rainforest is beautiful, but it is extremely muddy and wet. Listen when they say to bring extra clothes (shoes included). Also, wear shoes with a good grip. Jami, Patricia and Jean were really fun and helpful. They made everyone comfortable even those who didn't want to do the jump or slide. The restaurant was good and prices were reasonable. Use lots and lots of insect repellent at the Bio Bay. I got bit so many times it was hard to concentrate on kayaking at some points, but it was still a really good time and I was able to see the plankton under the tarp. I would recommend.

El yunque and bioluminescent bay

The whole tour was amazing. The driver Luis and the other guides at the jungle made it incredibly fun and safe. The whole drive there was a breeze and we stopped at the cutest market to buy food and souvenirs. The jungle itself was breathtaking, the waters crystal clear and the scenery amazing. I decided to go ahead and do the hiking to the waterfalls and it did not disappoint. Climbing through the rocks was hard but worth it. Sliding down two beautiful waterfalls and doing a 30 feet jump from a rock we’re a once in a lifetime opportunity. And I can’t even mention how great the bioluminescent bay was . Definitely recommend it.

Great experience overall. Definitely would recommend if you are visiting PR for the first time and don’t have a local with you. They take you to all the best spots and help guide you through the whole forest. Luis was awesome and made our trip.
